St. Peter the Apostle will host an in-person Open House on Thursday, February 15.  It is an opportunity to ask questions to learn more about the school and its programs. We are a 9-12 school, and will host two separate events on this night:
6:30-7:15 pm    Open House for Upcoming Grade Nine families
7:15-8:00 pm    Open House for High School (Grades 10-12)  families
Please take some time to review the following information regarding the options provided at St. Peter The Apostle High school.

Yes they will! We have several different ways in which students can have a look around the school.
(1) The first day of school will be an orientation day for grade nine students.  It is a nice way for the students to ease their way into the school year without feeling overwhelmed.  Once the Evergreen Catholic calendar for next year is set, we will be sure to communicate the day with all grade 9 families.
(2) New students beginning high school can book an appointment to come in prior to school beginning.
Please continue to check the school website for more information.

The  use of cell phones during class time is prohibited unless monitored by the teacher for the sole purpose of instruction and learning. Teachers will provide specific instructions for each class. It should be assumed that phones must be off and put away during class time unless they have been instructed to use their phone for a specific purpose. At no time should students be taking photos or recording in class, unless it is part of the instructional activities in the class and they have been directed by their teacher.

Students are free to leave school grounds at lunch.  Students who remain at school can eat lunch in the common areas. The cafeteria is open, and we encourage them to order their lunch in advance through the BITE TO EAT app. There are many healthy options for students to choose from.
St. Peter the Apostle is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school.  It is essential for students to have their own device. Students use a wide range of technology tools as a student of SPA.  Devices for under $300.00 can be found and meet all the requirements for the classroom. Although different devices are permitted to be used for educational purposes, the primary device students should use is a Chromebook.
We have flexible learning in our timetable and it will occur every Wednesday with a modified bell schedule. The purpose of flex is to give students the opportunity to choose from a variety of educational sessions provided by staff that will enhance their learning. The sessions offered allow students the opportunity to access their teachers for extra help, catch up on any assessments they have missed, complete their homework, learn a new skill or explore new learning on a topic that interests them. It is designed to keep students engaged in their learning and provide opportunities to explore new passions. All students are required to participate in flexible learning by visiting the website and choosing a session that best fits what their educational needs are for the week.
Students who achieve 75% in Language Arts 9 can proceed to enroll in English Honours in grade 10 and 11, then Advanced Placement English in grade 12.  For the upcoming school year we will be offering an Honours Biology class.
Each grade has a designated grade level school advisor.  If students require assistance in choosing the appropriate stream and timetable requests, they can make an appointment with Mrs. Rose, Mr. Maykut, Mr. Dunphy or Mr. Magega. Check out our Grade 9-12 SPA COURSE DESCRIPTIONS for more information.
Students in grade nine and ten are fully timetabled with no spares.  Students in grade eleven can have a maximum of two (3 credit) and students in grade twelve can have a maximum of five (3 credit) study blocks in a school year.
St. Peter the Apostle uses Powerschool as its student information system.  Parents and students have the ability to have current information about absences and lates, as well as, access to gradebook marks and comments.  Powerschool is an excellent tool, however, it doesn’t serve as a replacement for more direct communication.  Meetings, phone calls, and emails are better ways for parents, students and teachers to communicate any concerns, issues or questions.
